We Wish You A Merry Christmas! - Christmas Parades and Events around Chattanooga Like many cities around the U.S. nowadays, Chatttanooga and the cities and towns surrounding her have begun holding various Christmas and other Winter Holiday festivities. We would like to present you with a list of those we are aware of so far so that you can clear your schedule to admire all of the beauty of the Christmas Season in and around Chattanooga! On Friday, December 1st there are three Christmas events to announce. First of all, the City of Red Bank will hold their annual Christmas Parade and Christmas Tree Lighting beginning at 6:00 p.m. For specific details of the event, you may call the Red Bank Parade Committee at 751-4370. Secondly, the City of LaFayette will hold their annual Christmas Parade. Those who wish to participate may call the Recreation Department at (706) 639-1590. Cash awards will be given to the 3 best decorated floats. I must say that this is usually one of the best Christmas parades in the area. And lastly, if you will be in the Cleveland area on December 1st, you will want to catch their Christmas Tree lighting at 6:00 p.m. Folling the lighting at 6:15 p.m. will be Carols in the City with free downtown carriage rides and visits with Santa Claus. Be sure to bring a camera to record these precious memories! Saturday, December 2nd also hosts some great Christmas festivities this year. First, the City of Cleveland will hold their Christmas Parade at 6:00 p.m. Secondly, there will be a "Families on the Run" 5k and 10k race beginning and ending at the Hunter Museum of American Art. There will also be a Santa Stroll (Family Fun Run) and Kiddie K. Registration for the races and the fun runs will be at the Sports Barn from 6:00 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. That day, the Sports Barn will also be holding a Holiday Party from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. For more information call (423) 266-1125 or First Things First at (423) 267-5383. Also on December 2nd the city of my residence, Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, just south of the Tennessee line will be holding her Christmas Parade, Winter Wonderland, at 6:00 p.m. The parade will end at the historic Barnhard Circle Bandstand where Santa will be waiting to greet the children. At the circle, they will be serving cookies, coffee, and hot chocolate as well as giving away a Fort Oglethorpe cash shopping spree! Sunday, December 3rd is also a day to mark on your holiday calendar! In Cleveland, you can enjoy free trolley rides and tours of historic churches from 1:30p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Then on Little Debbie Parkway in Ooltewah and Collegdale at 3:00 p.m., you can enjoy The Spirit of Christmas Parade. For more information on registration and fees, call Steve Ray at 643-1111. On December 5th at Chattanooga State Community College from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., The Partnership for Families, Children and Adults will be presenting Nutcracker Sweets, a dessert sampling and auction benefiting the Partnership’s Crisis Services. This event will feature one-of-a kind desserts prepared by local chefs. Admission is $25. Call (423) 697-3827 for more information. December 9th beginning at Lookout Valley High School at 1:00 p.m., you can witness the sixteenth annual Lookout Valley Christmas Parade. Immediately after the parade, there will be a community Christmas celebration with games, food and entertainment. Those interested in taking part in this year's parade, please contact Alex McKeel, parade chairman, at 821-0509 or Jim Long, Patten Center director, at 825-5995. And finally on the night of December 9th, you can be a witness of the 32nd Parade of Lights boat parade on Chickamauga Lake. This spectacular parade of lights will begin around Big Ridge Marina at 6:30 p.m. and end up circling the lake near the Chickamauga Dam around 7:00 p.m. Oh, there is certainly one more definite series of events I must mention before we close. Beginning November 23rd (I know. I know. It's already started) and running through December 23rd, the Chattanooga Riverboat Company will host Christmas Carol Dinner Cruises on the Southern Belle Riverboat boarding at Ross's Landing in downtown Chattanooga! Singing deckhands will be singing Christmas Carols as you cruise the Tennessee River. A Prime Rib and Shrimp Creole dinner will be served and there will be live entertainment for dancing or easy listening while Santa will be there to start the dancing! Click here to make your reservations. In addition to these events, many area churches will be holding Christmas plays and cantatas. As soon as we are aware of any definite schedules we'll either send out another addition of The Chattanooga Charm Gazette or we'll simply post them on the website on a page linked from our homepage.
