The Chattanooga River Walk at the Tennessee Riverpark
The Chattanooga River Walk also known as the Tennessee Riverpark had its early beginnings with a group of citizens called the Moccasin Bend Task Force back in 1982. Though it started with just a vision of a few, it has blossomed into a glorious realty for millions of Chattanooga area citizens and visitors from around the world.A Long DevelopmentI can remember going to the then small Riverpark with my family back in the 1990’s. The Riverpark was for the most part confined to a small, but very nice park just off of Amnicola Highway alongside the river. Now that the various phases of the river walk are complete, the possibilities of activities you can enjoy here are nearly endless! You can now take advantage of 13 miles of trails and 150 acres of Riverpark solo or with those you love to spend your quality time with. Although the Tennessee Riverpark was created with the intent of getting us to reconnect with the river, it has also provided us with a tremendous opportunity to reconnect with each other…our community! What can you do along the Chattanooga River Walk? You can run, jog, power walk, or simply stroll along at an easy pace, taking in all of the great sites and sounds of nature and our growing river community. You can also roller blade, people watch, watch the Blue Herons along the river, boat watch, grill your favorite meats or veggies and picnic in the park. Or you could smell some flowers, talk while you walk with a friend or your loved ones, bicycle, tricycle, unicycle, sit and rest, or cop a squat while you read. But wait, there’s more… You can fish (as long as you have a license), fly a kite, play tag, play cards, or play ball! You could strum a guitar, exercise, explore, escape, grab some sun, grab lunch, or launch your boat. As with most parks though, there are still a few rules…just a few though, so relax: Park rules prohibit pets (except in designated areas), alcoholic beverages and other intoxicants, skateboards, swimming, reckless bicycling, camping, motorized vehicles on trails (except wheelchairs), entrance to closed areas, plant removal or destruction, and vending or solicitation without permit. See, I told you there were only a few! How do you get to the Chattanooga Tennessee Riverpark? From I-24/Hwy 27: Take the 4th Street Exit to Riverside Drive/Amnicola Highway. From I-75/Hwy 153: Take Amnicola Hwy South. There are multiple entrances to the park along Riverside Drive and Amnicola Highway. Or click here to see a map of the
