The other location that houses the museum's maintenance facility and working turntable can be found at the East Chattanooga Depot: 2202 N. Chamberlain Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37406.
In 1999 the TN Valley Railroad Museum began offering a unique train ride especially for the kids. They call it the North Pole Limited. They take the kids via railroad "to the North Pole" to visit with Santa Claus. There are lots of special treats on this trip and tickets are already selling out! Yes, selling out in August 2005!
Of course the glamour of the rails is no where near complete without a train ride, and train rides are what the railroad museum is all about! The railroad museum has several train rides to choose from. The shortest and most affordable is the Missionary Ridge Local, a 6 mile round trip from Grand Junction Station to the East Chattanooga Depot and back. Next in line is the Chickamauga Turn. It is a 4 to 5 1/2 hours trip to the town of Chickamauga. The railroad museum site gives conflicting information on this particular trip so you may wish to get clarification before you choose this one. It is also very affordable and quite a nice little ride. The Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum used to offer a ride to the Chattanooga Choo Choo downtown, called the Downtown Arrow. The railroad has announced, however, that this trip has been discontinued indefinitely. The railroad museum also offers charter trips, Dixie Land Excursions, School Field Trips, the Chickamauga Charter excursion, and they'll even let you charter a diesel locomotive by the hour and drive yourself (some restrictions apply).
