Chattanooga Tennessee Is The Scenic City of The Southeastern United States

Chattanooga Tennessee, also known as the "Scenic City", is a fast developing tourist destination, retirement haven, and just plain great place to live!

It is the fourth largest city in the state of Tennessee and lies along the chain of U.S. mountains called the Appalachians.

Economy

The local economy over the years has transitioned from a trading post and manufacturing since the industrial revolution, Civil War, and on into the Twentieth Century, to a mixture of both industrial and service/tourism industries nowadays.

In fact, on July 15, 2008, the official announcement was made that the auto manufacturing company Volkswagen would be building a new assembly plant in the Scenic City. This move is expected to greatly boost the economy with more than two thousand new jobs with Volkswagen alone. Chattanooga officials are also hopeful that suppliers of Volkswagen will also decide to begin new operations in the area in order to better service the plant as well as provide an even greater boost to the local economy.

This Volkswagen move is also expected to give a good "shot in the arm" to the local real estate market as new workers and executives move into the area.

Education

There are quite a number of schools in the Chattanooga area, both public and private. Some of the more notable private schools include McCallie School, Baylor School, Girls Preparatory School (GPS), and Notre Dame High School.

One of Chattanooga's more popular institutions of higher learning is the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC), known as the "Mocs" (short for moccasins) to their sports fans.

There are also quite a number of other private and public colleges and universities in Chattanooga Tennessee and the immediate area including Chattanooga State Technical Community College, Tennessee Temple University, Southern Adventist University, Tennessee Wesleyan College, Lee University, the University of the South, and Covenant College.

There are also a number of branches of other institutions in the area including the University of Phoenix, Miller-Motte Technical College, Virginia College, and the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. The UT College of Medicine is affiliated with Erlanger Medical Center which assists in the education and residencies of their students and medical professionals.

Chattanooga Tennessee Hospitals and Health Care

Six primary hospitals are located in the immediate Chattanooga area, each with their own specialties and position in the community. These include Erlanger Hospital and TC Thompson's Childrens Hospital which are "joined at the hip" on the same campus and work together very well.

Other hospitals in the area include Parkridge Hospital and East Ridge Medical Center (both Tri-Star Heathcare facilities), Memorial Hospital, and just over the state line in Georgia, Hutcheson Medical Center.

Tourism and Culture

In recent years, Chattanooga has become a wonderful tourist destination! The city and immediate area are now known for their natural scenic beauty with awesome sights of nature and wildlife abounding.

But Chattanooga is gaining a reputation as a great vacation destination because of her growing array of museums, man-made attractions, as well as her great location as a hub for regional adventures.

Chattanooga's museums include the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum, the Creative Discovery Museum, the Hunter Museum of American Art, the Chattanooga African American Museum, the National Medal of Honor Museum, the Houston Museum of Decorative Art, and the Chattanooga Regional History Museum.

Chattanooga is also the home of a very unusual museum, the International Towing and Recovery Hall of Fame and Museum. It is said that Chattanooga is the birthplace of the tow truck!

Chattanooga Tennessee Accommodations

Due to all of the growth and interest in Chattanooga, there is no shortage of accommodations or accommodation types!

There are bed and breakfast inns, standard and luxury hotels, and vacation cabins of various sizes. Specialty hotels such as urban resorts, hotels where you can stay in a Victorian train car, and other historic hotels like the Sheraton Read House are also available.
