Getting Around Town...
|
||||||||
Although traffic in Chattanooga can be a pain in the backside just like any other city's traffic, the worse days in traffic here don't even compare to the best days in larger cities like Atlanta, Knoxville, Nashville, or worse.
Because of this, there are numerous great ways to navigate the Scenic City daily. We'll explore most of them here!
You just can't beat the freedom of driving your own car, no matter where you are. Sorry, that was a completely unintentional rhyme and a very corny one at that.
Anyway, as stated above, the traffic around these parts just isn't bad enough in most cases to warrant looking for alternate forms of transportation (depending on your unique situation of course).
This is especially true if you are going to be visiting area attractions outside of the downtown area.
For instance, Rock City, Ruby Falls, Lake Winnie, and many others are located away from downtown Chattanooga, enough so to warrant a rental.
There are a number of car rental businesses in and around town, but we recommend Enterprise Chattanooga car rentals. After all, they are one of the top national brands and as they say in their ads, they'll pick you up!
Or, you could search for a rental car here...
If you are working and/or only planning your stay in the immediate downtown area, one of your best bets for transportation is the FREE CARTA Electric Shuttle. Yes, you read that right, it's a free ride on Chattanooga's downtown shuttle and it's environmentally friendly as a bonus!
The shuttle runs a route from its station next to the Chattanooga Choo Choo to the Tennessee Aquarium with plenty of stops in between. In fact, there is a place for the shuttle to stop each block on the route, if necessary, for the convenience of Chattanoogans and visitors alike.
And there is a shuttle departing about every 5 minutes daily.
The Electric Shuttle hours of operation are :
Weekdays 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.
Saturdays and Sundays 9:00 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.
The Chattanooga Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) also operates bus service along 16 routes. They also operate 7 Park and Ride lots for those of you who commute regularly throughout Chattanooga, so you can save gas money in these days of such high petroleum prices!
Visit the CARTA website for more information on their services, routes, and accommodations for people with disabilities. The address is www.carta-bus.org.
For special occasions, meetings, banquet, or simply riding in style, why not rent a limousine? That's right, let the chauffer do the driving while you have the fun!
Finally, if your business or vacation will be restricted to downtown, or if you like to work your exercise into your daily routine, just walk, jog, or ride a bike!
This is a great way to take in the sites and sounds of Chattanooga anyway, so why not avoid high gas prices and pollution contribution altogether?
But, however you choose to get around, in, or through Chattanooga traffic, get moving and enjoy our wonderful Scenic City!
